It's gone a little quiet

Cos I've been knitting - I know it's shocking!

And they are my patterns!  They are with the test knitters at the moment, but as soon as they are done they will be up in the store!

Back to the knitting!

Not much happening!

Nothing much going on here at the moment.  I've still recovering from mum's wedding - I've been knitting to aid the process ;o)

I have some new products in the planning stages and am hoping to try my hand at dying yarn, so depending on how that goes you may see some of that in the store.  I'm also thinking up some gift sets and of course there is the customary halloween and christmas lines that need to go into the store!

Wordless Wednesday

Tuesday 17 August 2010

Idea's please...

I'm working on designing my lines for Christmas and Halloween.  I think I have pretty much exhausted every idea my grey squishies have, they are all drawn up and ready to be made 3D.  But what if I've missed a really good idea that I never thought of?

What charms would you like to see in the store? Is there a particular halloween thing that you love, or a Christmas ornament that you couldn't have Christmas without.  Leave me a comment and let me know what your ideals would be......

I'm useless.....

so I'm going to post here last weeks remaining 3 numbers, then from this week forward I'm going to draw the numbers on a Saturday in one go.  I just keep forgetting to draw the numbers or things are too hectic.

So for last week the numbers will be:

New Line Over at the Stores

Not much going on this week so far.

I've got a couple of items list, mainly 2 keyrings and 2 bracelets that I have been working on.  They should be on by the end of the week.

The first bracelet is the result of my 'circus' obssession.  It is a charm bracelet with polymer clay charms featuring, itty bitty lion, little seal, bear, a ring masters hat, a tricks stand and a ball.  In amongst the charms are clusters of brightly coloured beads.

The second bracelet was inspired by a box of treasures that I picked up recently from an antiques store.  Using elements from the box I designed a shabby chic bracelet.  A strand of pearl beads, a gold coloured chain with crystal droplets and a piece of cream organza ribbon for balance.

Also, I have added a series of create your own sets to the store.  Simply choose the number of markers that you would like, then choose which markers are your favourite and purchase as normal leaving me a note of your favourites.  If you also mention where you heard about the create your own sets, you might get a little extra in your package ;o)

Week 2, 3rd Number

Updated this week....

So this weeks update was a little late!

The lights to my light box blew up, I lost my camera, the whole shebang!

Anyway better late than never I always say...

I have update with a couple of bags that can be used as either project bags or make up bags - they would be suitable as either.  I've also updated quite a few charms.  I'm going to change the way I do my stitch markers from now on.  I'm not going to make them up as a knit or crochet marker, but rather leave them plain and then make them up as indicated by the buyer.  This way I'm giving you as many options as possible as well as saving myself time and materials.

I've also got plans for a couple of new items that I am soon going to be trialing in the store, just need to get them perfected before their big debut!

Roll up, Roll up, Roll up!

Do  you fancy a freebie?  A bit of a game of chance?

Fill out the form on the Welshmillies Game of Chance Page to be included in a drawing for money off vouchers or the star prize from my store!

As this will be the first draw there will be a whole host of goodies included!

At the moment I am going to draw 1 number per day via a Random Number Generator.  I will announce the numbers daily on Twitter, Facebook, Plurk and here on the blog as well as a weekly summary of numbers.  A summary of the months numbers will be posted here at the beginning of each month.

Good Luck!

And We Have A Winner

The Random Number Generator picked number 8. which was a comment from plurky pal HotterThan!

She commented 'The frog or chicken stitch markers. I love the expression on their faces. Then again I'm intrigued by the glow in the dark skulls. Perfect for late night knitting.'

Congratulations, I'll be in touch about your prize.

Full blog post to follow later on.

TTFN! ;o)

Friday 16 July 2010

Welcome!

My name is Sarah and I run a small online business called Welshmillie's Whimsies.

I found it really difficult to come up with a name - in the end I went with the basics, I'm Welsh, have a cat called Millie and am constantly following Whimsies. Whimsies are defined as an odd or fanciful idea, which I have all the time. Occasionally they are made into products which I sell.

Why sell I hear you cry....well if I didn't sell I would be over run with stuff!

So, a little about me......I'm a sagitarius, like long walks on the beach..and......

No, seriously I am a sagitarius, green eyes and a fiery temper! I used to have carrot top hair (it grew muted over the years). When I was about 6 my mum and nana tried to teach me how to knit with squeaky red acrylic and plastic needles. I remember taking my 'knitted piece' to my mum and asking for help. The tension was that tight the needles were bending under the strain of trying to knit.

Fast forward a couple (several) years of picking up knitting and putting it down when my husband brought me my first ipod for Christmas. I was soon bored of my music and wanted to find out more about this itunes thing. A quick lesson introduced me podcasts and Lime and Violet. I was hooked! I listened to all manner of podcasts about crafty stuff and everytime I heard something I didn't know about I looked it up and learnt about it.

Stitch markers were mentioned several times. I was intrigued, so went to find out about them. I loved all the little designs, but was put off buying any because they were either over sea's or they were ' OMG I'm not buying that! I could make it for half the price'.

Eventually I talked DH into buying me some polymer clay and gave it a go. The first ones were large and hideous! But I perservered! Then I got quite a large collection - did I mention that I was a habitual hoarder? Then something had to give so I opened an Etsy store. Since then I've been floating around on the internet, not really knowing what to do with myself.

Recently I've made some life changing decisions and decided that my store is going to become my business rather than my hobby. And the rest and they say is history!

I hope to be posting at least once a week here, with anything that I have been working on. I'm also hoping to start showing some tutorials for some of the items that I make.

This weeks shop update has included some miniature lions, sea lions, ducks, hens and bear stitch markers. There is also some jewelry and a couple of ipod cozies. I'm always open to comments so let me know what you think.

If you would like to order and found your way from the blog use the code bloin4 for a 10% discount!

Stores can be found on Artfire and Etsy!

Further more to celebrate the new blog, shop relaunch etc, leave a comment here about your favourite item in the store and next Friday (23rd July 10) I will pick a winner at random to win a gift certificate for $15!
